Program Description
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common cardiac condition with increasing incidence and prevalence in the United States. People who have untreated AF are 5 times more likely to have a stroke; therefore, stroke prevention is essential to improve survival, health, and quality of life. Direct oral anticoagulants are crucial in the prevention of stroke and other life-threatening events for patients. Pharmacists should be educated on the recently updated 2023 ACC/AHA/ACCP/HRS Joint Committee Guideline for the Diagnosis and Management of Atrial Fibrillation so they can effectively manage anticoagulation therapies, promote medication adherence, and alleviate disease burden. This activity, which includes interactive patient case vignettes, will highlight the role of the pharmacist in assisting patients with AF, understanding the updated guidelines for treating AF, and implementing measures to reduce stroke risk.
