Program Description

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and complications arising from ASCVD have been associated with greater health care resource utilization as well as increased direct and indirect costs. Effective lipid management, centered on the reduction of LDL-C, is the cornerstone of secondary prevention; however, a substantial proportion of high-risk patients fall short of meeting guideline-recommended targets on statin monotherapy. This program is designed to equip managed care professionals and pharmacists with strategies to advance value-based hyperlipidemia care by utilizing evidence-based risk stratification tools and ensuring guideline adherence. The latest clinical trial data and expanded FDA indications for non-statin therapies as well as emerging LDL-C-lowering therapies will be discussed. Beyond pharmacotherapy, the session will address the logistical side of lipid management, focusing on navigating prior authorization and benefit design to ensure timely identification and treatment initiation among patients that may benefit from non-statin therapies.
