Program Description
Multiple sclerosis (MS) often presents in a relapsing-remitting (RR) disease course that is classified by inflammatory attacks or exacerbations followed by periods of partial or complete remission. Patients with RRMS experience significant financial burdens as well as decreased quality of life due to disease relapses. Pharmacists can be instrumental in identifying patients for whom early treatment of RRMS with disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) may be beneficial. This activity will review different mechanisms of action, adverse effects, and costs of recently approved DMTs. Key challenges surrounding treatment administration and access have been exacerbated by COVID-19, such as disruption in monitoring or missed infusions, and have affected patient adherence. Strategies for pharmacist interventions to improve overall patient outcomes in RRMS utilizing telemedicine will be presented.
