Program Description

Menin inhibitors represent a new treatment approach that targets key leukemia-driving pathways in specific acute myeloid leukemia (AML) subtypes. The role of menin inhibitors in AML requires oncology pharmacists to synthesize complex molecular and clinical data for treatment decisions. Effective management utilizes next-generation sequencing (NGS), European LeukemiaNet (ELN) risk stratification, and measurable residual disease (MRD) assessment, but inconsistent interpretation of genomic reports, prioritization of co-occurring mutations, and variable incorporation of MRD findings hinder this process. Oncology pharmacists often encounter challenges including limited access to mutation-prioritization frameworks, variability in molecular reporting, and rapid therapeutic advancements, and inconsistent guidance and institutional protocols further complicate supportive care implementation. The effective use of oral menin inhibitors requires coordinated workflows for timely therapy initiation. This session will review practical workflows and decision frameworks to integrate menin inhibitors into AML care pathways. Through real-world examples and interactive discussion, oncology pharmacists will explore common access and adherence barriers to oral menin inhibitors, including inpatient stocking challenges, coverage and cost issues, and financial toxicity, along with strategies to leverage patient assistance resources.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze molecular and clinical patient profiles for evidence-based selection and sequencing of menin inhibitors within contemporary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treatment pathways
  • Employ risk-adapted monitoring and supportive care strategies to mitigate toxicities associated with menin inhibitor–based AML therapies
  • Apply integrated access and workflow strategies for the timely initiation and continuity of oral menin inhibitor therapy across care settings
