Exploring Clinical Updates in HR+/HER2- Breast Cancer Treatment and the Impact on Patient Care

August 16, 2022 | 6:00 PM & 8:00 PM ET

Add-on activity

This activity includes a patient perspective.

Program Description

Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitors are an important first-line treatment for patients with metastatic hormone receptor-positive breast cancer and are emerging as a treatment option in the adjuvant setting. This program will review long-term data for available CDK4/6 inhibitors and how these results may shape considerations for novel strategies in the use of these agents. Pharmacists should be aware of the potential role of novel selective estrogen receptor downregulators. The increase in utilization of oral oncolytics offers increased opportunities for pharmacists to improve the way these products are prescribed, dispensed, administered, and monitored. Oncology pharmacists are actively involved in the management of drug therapies for patients receiving treatment with CDK4/6 inhibitors and should be aware of toxicities and dose adjustments required. Additionally, faculty experts will share solutions to address nonadherence and counseling pearls for patients receiving CDK4/6 inhibitors. A patient perspective interview is included throughout the program, highlighting the experience of a patient with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in navigating diagnosis and treatment.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Dissect emerging investigational approaches and long-term follow-up data for hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer treatment strategies
  • Explore recent data supporting and investigating the use of cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors for the treatment of HR+/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative breast cancer in the adjuvant setting
  • Apply management and monitoring recommendations to therapeutic treatment strategies to support outcomes and quality of life in patients with HR+ breast cancer

This activity is supported by an educational grant from Sanofi.
