Add-on activity
This activity includes patient counseling videos.
Program Description
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) commonly presents as an upper respiratory infection that can cause increased morbidity and mortality for older patients, especially for those with underlying comorbidities. The current treatment paradigm for RSV is limited and mostly supportive care, but several RSV vaccine candidates are under development in various stages of clinical trials. Pharmacists are in a unique position to identify patients with risk factors for more severe disease and ensure patients are familiar with tactics to reduce transmission of RSV. Pharmacists can provide education on the effectiveness of emerging RSV vaccines in preventing disease complications. Expert panelists will outline the pharmacist’s role in promoting acceptance of new vaccines and overcoming barriers associated with reduced vaccination coverage among some populations by addressing disparities in care. Included in this activity are patient counseling videos to illustrate the role of the pharmacist in educating patients about RSV and emerging vaccines.
