Program Description
With the advent of biosimilar medications, there has been a dramatic shift in the number of FDA approvals specifically for oncology biosimilars.  Biosimilars have the potential to improve patient access to care given lower costs associated with therapy. Pharmacists are well positioned to provide education to patients and the oncology healthcare team on the use of biosimilars in clinical practice and have important roles in addressing concerns or challenges in patient care. This activity will review the role of biosimilars in oncology care, with an emphasis on the potential economic benefit.  Additionally, payer strategies for the use of biosimilars in clinical practice will be emphasized.

• Explain the economic benefit of oncology biosimilars as well as the impact on resource utilization and overall cost of cancer care
• Determine necessary changes for health systems or payers to incorporate a biosimilar into treatment protocols or managed care formularies.
• Apply concepts of similarity and cost-savings into a value-based care model.
