Program Description
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common kidney cancer in the United States, accounting for approximately 85% of cases. Specifically, the clear cell histology is the most common, and many patients with metastatic clear cell (mcc) RCC are treated with targeted therapies including tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibodies, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors, and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), potentially in combination with additional treatments. Specialty pharmacists are in a unique position to provide education to both patients and the medical team, and they can also assist in patients’ understanding of novel technologies to assist in adherence. This activity will provide an overview of preferred treatments for mccRCC and will emphasize the role pharmacists play in promoting positive patient outcomes through the use of digital health tools and platforms.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Analyze the clinical relevance of emerging clinical trial data in first-line treatment of metastatic clear cell renal carcinoma (mccRCC)
- Distinguish the role of specialty pharmacists in managing patients with mccRCC with immune checkpoint inhibitor-related adverse events
- Identify barriers to medication adherence and outcomes associated with low adherence in patients with mccRCC
- Determine how digital health tools and platform information can be used to improve outcomes in patients with mccRCC
