Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a rare cancer of the bile duct system with a relatively low 5-year overall survival of just 10%. Several resources are available to aid in the diagnosis of CCA and in determining the staging and severity of disease, but the prognosis is dependent on many factors including tumor size and location. Rapidly evolving evidence and advances in the understanding of the etiology of CCA and biomarkers has led to a growing number of biomarkers identified as potential treatment options, including FGFR, TRK, RET, IDH, MSI-H/dMMR, and TMB-H. National guidelines support the use of biomarkers to guide targeted treatment options and immunotherapies. Although significant strides have been made in treatment efficacy, the cost of treatment has also significantly increased. This webinar will review efficacy and safety data supporting use of approved and investigational pharmacologic treatments for CCA. Financial burden of disease and health care resource utilization associated with unresectable or metastatic CCA will be presented for managed care pharmacists to determine appropriate testing and treatment strategies for patients. Specific considerations to ensure that cost-effective use in patients with CCA based on biomarker expression will also be discussed.
