Updates in Induction and Maintenance Regimens for Older Patients With AML

Program Description

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains the most common acute leukemia among adults, and survival rates among patients over aged 60 years remain low at 5% to 15%. However, advancements in induction regimens as well as evolving maintenance therapy options have improved outcomes for this patient population. Despite the evolving landscape of AML therapy, older patients with AML undergoing treatment require additional considerations, and pharmacist-led efforts can assist in overcoming these challenges. This activity will present recent stratification criteria and examine guideline recommendations for use of current and emerging therapies to assist pharmacists caring for older patients with AML in guiding treatment selection. Panelists will also share clinical expertise using patient cases and identify potential barriers, such as those affecting administration, financial, or access, that complicate the management and treatment of older adults with AML.
