Program Description

In men with advanced prostate cancer, disease management has been shaped by androgen-deprivation therapy, which acts by reducing circulating levels of androgen or inhibiting the activity of the androgen receptor. Currently approved anti-androgen therapy is administered orally and has contributed to challenges in toxicity management and ensuring adherence. As they develop treatment pathways, managed care pharmacists need to not only be aware of agents already on the market, but also of emerging therapies and interventions. This program will review the changing landscape of prostate cancer treatment with anti-androgen therapies as well as investigate combination therapy of anti-androgens with PARP inhibitors. The discussion will also address disparities in care, toxicity mitigation strategies, and cost-effectiveness data managed care pharmacists must consider during treatment selection to ensure continued patient access to prostate cancer therapies.
