Program Description
Despite advances in therapies for patients with acute myeloid leukemia, the cure rate remains low, with just 5% to 15% of patients aged older than 60 years achieving cure. However, advancements in induction regimens as well as evolving maintenance therapy options have improved outcomes for this patient population. Despite the evolving landscape of AML therapy, older patients with AML undergoing treatment require additional considerations, and pharmacist-led efforts can assist in overcoming these challenges. This activity will examine clinical data for different combination therapies in the treatment landscape of AML, with analysis of cost-efficacy and medication access considerations. The role of managed care pharmacists in implementing clinical pathways and developing evidence-based treatment protocols for the management of older patients with AML to optimize utilization of resources for both patients and the healthcare system will also be examined.
