Program Description
Approximately 50 million people in the United States experience acne vulgaris (AV), an inflammatory skin condition that occurs when sebum and dead skin cells clog pores. Inflammatory lesions can range in severity from mild, moderate, or severe, which can result in permanent physical scarring as well as emotional and psychological burden for patients. The majority of individuals with AV respond to acute treatment and achieve resolution with topical therapy, but many require additional skin care regimens consisting of cleansers and moisturizers. This program will review guideline-based recommendations incorporating available ceramide-containing OTC therapies in treatment regimens to help patients achieve symptom control and address the underlying pathophysiological changes that occur in AV.
