Understanding the Burden of Eosinophilic Esophagitis in Children

The FDA indication of dupilumab was expanded in January 2024 to include the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis in children aged 1 year and older, weighing at least 15 kg. Program Description

Genetics, inflammatory markers, and environmental factors all contribute to the development of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a condition due to inflammation of the esophagus. Symptoms vary depending on the patient’s age, with differences in infants and toddlers compared with older, school-aged children. EoE may be difficult to discern initially from other common conditions. Several scoring systems that assess endoscopic features, symptom activity, and patient-reported quality of life are used in the diagnosis and evaluation of EoE. Individuals are often required to follow dietary restrictions or avoid certain foods altogether, which may impact growth for pediatric patients. Prompt identification of EoE can prevent costly diagnostics and unnecessary procedures or emergency department visits, thus improving appropriate management of this lifelong condition. This webinar will examine the burden of EoE in pediatric patients, with a focus on the impact of EoE on patients’ and caregivers’ quality of life.
