Program Description

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) are 2 leading causes of vision loss and impose a significant burden on patients and the health care system. The overlapping pathophysiology of both conditions requires that pharmacists be able to distinguish between their clinical presentations, risk factors, and progression. This webinar will tackle current treatment challenges in AMD and DME, addressing the importance of screening, limitations in medication dosing and adherence, and burdens associated with injection frequency. Additionally, management of AMD and DME, including medications and injections, can be expensive. Patients experience the significant impact of visual function impairment in both social limitations as well as increased health care resource utilization. This webinar will provide specialty pharmacists with valuable insights to enhance their role within ophthalmology care in managing therapies for patients with AMD and DME to improve patient quality of life and reduce associated disease burden. A Powered by Patients™ interview will be included within the presentation, featuring the perspective of an individual living with AMD/DME and their experience in navigating treatment challenges with the help of a multidisciplinary team.
