Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes: Infiltrating the Boundaries of Cancer Care in Solid Tumors Through a Managed Care Lens

Program Description

Tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy is an emerging immunotherapeutic strategy for the management of solid tumors that is being explored in the treatment of melanoma as well as ovarian, breast, and lung cancers. The production of TILs is labor-intensive, and patient follow-up after therapy requires a high level of care coordination among members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. It is imperative to differentiate TILs from CAR T-cell therapies and for managed care professionals to understand the evolving recommendations for treatment sequencing and combination treatment. This activity offers a fundamental understanding of the role of TIL therapy in solid tumors, including the mechanism of action, clinical evidence, toxicity management and best practices to support safe and efficacious use of TILs in both inpatient and outpatient settings. As the role of TIL therapy expands, managed care professionals and pharmacists must evaluate existing clinical protocols and the financial implications of TIL therapy. Approaches for managed care professionals to individualize therapeutic selections and coordinate comprehensive plans for the adoption of TILs into the treatment paradigms for various solid tumors will be discussed.
