Program Description

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with substantial burden for patients. A greater understanding of the pathophysiology of anemia in CKD and the need for alternative therapy in patients unable to respond to iron therapy or erythropoiesis-stimulating agents has led to new treatment targets focusing on inhibiting the hypoxia-inducible factor pathway. This podcast will focus on emerging and investigational hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors and the recent data updates. Key counseling points and considerations for pharmacists in the multidisciplinary management of treatment strategies for patients with anemia in CKD will be discussed.
