Program Description
Psoriasis affects approximately 8 million individuals in the United States and 125 million individuals worldwide, making it the most common immune-mediated inflammatory disease in North America and Europe. Psoriasis is characterized by recurrent exacerbations and remissions of thickened, erythematous, and scaling plaques, with patients often facing a considerable impact on their quality of life due to burdens such as social stigmatization and physical disability. However, nontreatment and undertreatment of psoriasis continue to be significant problems in the United States regardless of treatment accessibility. Pharmacists specifically have an opportunity to exert a positive effect on patient outcomes via patient education and monitoring to optimize outcomes. This activity will review recent data on new treatment options as well as best practices in applying the clinical data to improve patient outcomes, reduce complications, and lower health care costs for both patients and the health care system.
