Program Description
The percentage of the US population that has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 continues to increase. Pharmacists have been at the forefront of COVID-19 vaccination efforts, contributing to public health and herd immunity by administering and facilitating access to available COVID-19 vaccines. Still, structural barriers as well as attitudinal or personal beliefs and perceptions have contributed to vaccine hesitancy among some individuals. Each available vaccine, mRNA or viral vector, has unique structural barriers, challenges, and considerations pharmacists must be aware of when communicating with patients. In this panel discussion, experts will present data specific to the viral-vector–based COVID-19 vaccines as an option for when patients are unable to access or cannot receive mRNA vaccines. Equipped with information about the safety and efficacy of viral-vector vaccine options, pharmacists will have the opportunity to address vaccine hesitancy in communities. Examples of key strategies for providing education during patient counseling sessions will be reviewed.
