The Role of IV Iron in Resolving Iron Deficiency in Heart Failure

Program Description

Iron deficiency (ID) is a common comorbidity in patients with heart failure (HF) that negatively impacts their quality of life and function and contributes significantly to hospitalizations. The likelihood of ID increases in patients living with advanced HF and during HF exacerbations, where rates may be as high as 75%. Screening for ID is a key strategy for its identification, and pharmacists should be aware of certain clinical features indicative of ID that may be present even in patients with HF with normal hemoglobin. This webinar will focus specifically on factors that inform the diagnosis of ID in HF, with a review of clinical guideline recommendations. Expert faculty will examine the role of intravenous iron formulations, considering dosing, administration, adverse event monitoring, and how guideline-directed treatment protocols can improve outcomes. This webinar is part of the Iron Deficiency Anemia Webinar series.
