The Role of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Cutaneous Melanoma: Evaluating Therapeutic Trends

Program Description

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have emerged as the new standard of care in the treatment of metastatic cutaneous melanoma and have also shown therapeutic benefits in the adjuvant setting. Combination therapy has been associated with improved response rates compared with monotherapy, with several combination therapies approved. Pharmacists caring for patients with melanoma have essential roles in managing the complexities of ICI therapy. It is essential for them to be aware of updates in clinical data and therapeutic trends in ICI use while weighing the potential benefits of therapy against the risk of toxicity. This program will examine special considerations in therapeutic sequencing based on disease- and patient-specific factors, including risk of recurrence, potential clinical benefit, potential toxicities, and patient preference. Recommendations for management of ICI toxicities will be presented.
