This activity was originally broadcast live as a satellite symposium held in conjunction with HOPA 2022.
Program Description
The scope of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy has expanded with the use of ICI combination strategies, including combining ICIs with molecularly targeted therapies. A growing number of these therapy combinations have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for multiple tumor types. Despite the efficacy of these combination therapies, ICIs are associated with a wide spectrum of immune-related adverse effects that may be severe if not appropriately identified and managed. In addition, many of the targeted therapies used in combinations with ICIs have overlapping toxicity profiles. This activity will explore the distinct mechanisms of action and adverse effect profiles of approved and emerging ICIs in combination with oral targeted therapies. Patient cases will be discussed throughout the program to offer pharmacists the opportunity to examine treatment challenges and strategies to manage adverse effects of therapy for patients receiving ICIs/targeted therapy combinations.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify the role of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-targeted therapy combination regimens in the management of cancer
- Compare adverse effect profiles associated with ICIs and targeted therapies when used alone and in combination with one another
- Investigate strategies to aid in the management of combination drug regimens upon the development of drug-related toxicity
