Program Description
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterized by elevated pulmonary arterial pressure that can lead to right heart failure and premature death if left untreated. It is imperative for pharmacists to stay abreast of the evolving landscape and the most recent guidelines to provide a comprehensive approach to PAH management. Current therapeutic options and drug classes target different pathways implicated in PAH pathogenesis, and the emergence of multidrug combination regimens and late-stage investigational agents underscores the need for tailored therapeutic strategies that expand treatment options and address unmet needs in PAH management. However, specialty pharmacists must recognize that effective management extends beyond pharmacotherapy alone and requires a multidisciplinary team approach. This activity will incorporate patient counseling video vignettes and highlight the pivotal role of the specialty pharmacist in helping patients navigate the complexities of PAH management and therapy to optimize treatment response, adjust regimens, and mitigate potential adverse effects to ultimately enhance patient quality of life.
