Program Description

It is well documented that preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is highly effective in preventing the transmission of HIV. Although 1.2 million people in the United States are eligible, just 26% are accessing PrEP. Multiple challenges exist in the PrEP landscape surrounding uptake, monitoring, and persistence as well as challenges encompassing health equity and disparities by race, gender, age, and other social determinants of health. Improving PrEP coverage calls for improved awareness, prescribing, and reach in high-risk yet underreached and vulnerable groups. This activity will assist managed care professionals in gaining an understanding of the current status of HIV in the United States, recognizing populations eligible to receive PrEP, and identifying where challenges and disparities exist in HIV prevention across the population.
