This activity was originally presented as part of the 2024 Asembia Specialty Day of Education Winter Edition.
Program Description
Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the sinuses and nasal passages, leading to significant health burden. Due to the range of symptoms and associated diseases, patients with CRSwNP experience a reduced quality of life resulting from persistent symptoms. Though patients often respond to brief durations of corticosteroids for immediate and/or short-term use, medical management often fails as patients become refractory to systemic steroids. In recent years, the treatment practice has shifted toward use of biologics that target the inflammatory cytokines in CRSwNP. However, concerns about the accessibility of new biologic drugs have risen. This activity will equip specialty pharmacists to identify patients in the early stages of disease and determine if they are candidates for medical management with a biologic. Informed by social media analytic tools and insights about discussion points from patients, caregivers, and health care professionals regarding the treatment of CRSwNP gathered through artificial intelligence technology, the interactive format of this program features opportunities for faculty to debate and discuss challenges and trends in the use of biologics for CRSwNP. Participants will be able to provide responses to the discussion in real time.
