Program Description

Renal cell carcinoma accounts for up to 85% of kidney cancer tumors, of which the majority are clear cell histology. The 5-year overall survival for metastatic disease is just 12%. Combinations of targeted therapy agents, including tyrosine kinase inhibitors, anti-vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors, and immune checkpoint inhibitors have been recently approved, and multiple other regimens are under investigation. Pharmacists should understand nuances of therapies and where regimens fit into treatment guidelines for mccRCC. The treatment paradigm for patients continues to shift toward oral oncolytics and use of orals in combination with intravenous therapies, making the role of the pharmacist in the management of these patients more challenging. This activity will present the role of digital applications and technology as tools for pharmacists to help coordinate care and manage patients with renal cell carcinoma.
