Program Description
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a rare, chronic disease that causes inflammation of the esophagus in response to food allergen exposure or substances in the environment. This condition contributes to worsened quality of life for patients due to impaired social function or physical implications such as stricture formation and dysphagia. Goals of treatment for patients with EoE include reducing symptoms and inflammation, maintaining remission, and avoiding complications with nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options. There are limitations of current EoE treatments, but there are emerging therapies including corticosteroids and biologics that have been evaluated for their efficacy and safety in patients with EoE. Specialty pharmacists can help improve outcomes in patients with EoE by working to integrate these emerging therapies into treatment paradigms when able. This program also features patient case simulations using videos, which will allow participants to practice making real-world decisions in a timely manner and answer questions while reinforcing important counseling tips when managing patients with EoE.
