Multiple myeloma (MM), characterized by malignant plasma cell expansion in the bone marrow, is the second most common hematologic malignancy in the United States. Significant advancements in the management of MM have led to a reduction in patient mortality; however, despite these advances and the use of proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulators, monoclonal antibodies, and hematopoietic stem cell transplants as treatment options, the majority of patients will relapse. B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-targeted therapies have the potential to revolutionize the MM treatment landscape via a different treatment pathway. Therefore, it is vital managed care professionals stay up-to-date on these novel agents and integrate the most recent clinical data in facilitating appropriate access. This activity will aid managed care and oncology pharmacists in keeping abreast of emerging clinical evidence and guideline-directed care to ensure proper selection and provision of information regarding treatment of MM, as well as review clinical updates from the 2023 ASH Annual Meeting on novel and emerging pharmacotherapeutic approaches to BCMA-targeted therapy.
