Program Description
Photosensitivity and sunburn are commonly encountered dermatologic issues caused by excessive, unprotected exposure to the sun. Some individuals with fair skin complexion, those taking certain pharmacologic agents, as well as infants and children are at greater risk for photosensitivity or sunburn, and pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have an important role in identifying these populations who may benefit from use of sunscreen as well as products to maintain skin barrier function. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians need to be familiar with American Academy of Dermatology recommendations for use of sunscreen and recommended ingredients for optimal protection. This webinar will discuss common triggers and exacerbations of photosensitivity as well as the important role of ceramides and sunscreen in reducing incidence and in improving the skin barrier’s protective function.
