Program Description

Symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) can significantly impact a person’s functional mobility, physical well-being, and their health-related quality of life. The management of patients with PAH requires a comprehensive and multidisciplinary treatment approach that includes the expertise of pharmacists to manage targeted drug treatment and supplemental therapies. In recent years, significant progress in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of PAH has led to new evidence-based recommendations included in the 2022 European Society of Cardiology and European Respiratory Society guidelines. Pharmacists must recognize the expanding landscape of therapeutic options in PAH, management considerations for preventing potential drug interactions and adverse events, and medication-specific considerations to support access and adherence. Along with a discussion of updated guideline recommendations for sequencing of approved and emerging therapies as well as data supporting utilization of early interventions with combination therapy, this program features opportunities to review practical cases and how to optimize coordination of care.
