Activity Overview
The practice of pharmacy is complex and requires a balance of hand-written documentation, advanced data processing systems, and dispensing robotics. To mitigate errors and ensure consistent recordkeeping as well as optimal patient care, the pharmacy must have established best practices for everyday policies and procedures. Pharmacy technicians can explore training options to grow and gain proficiency in a variety of skills to help improve workflow within their pharmacy setting. As state guidelines continue to increase the scope of practice for pharmacy technicians, they will have to be able to navigate an expanding role that may include providing immunizations, tracking inventory or running financial reports, as well as performing other tasks to assist the pharmacist. This activity focuses on specific examples pharmacy technicians can explore to further their training and refer to in developing efficient operations.

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

• Define best practices for pharmacy technician operations
• Recognize approaches to improve daily pharmacy workflow, including use of technology
