Program Description
Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancer and is the fifth most common cause of cancer mortality in women in the United States. Despite initial therapy with surgery and systemic chemotherapy, many patients with advanced ovarian cancer experience disease relapse requiring further treatment. Treatment with poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors has been shown to prolong survival in patients with both newly diagnosed and recurrent ovarian cancer. This activity will provide an overview of the place in therapy for PARP inhibitors, as well as developments in clinical practice. Additionally, the role of specialty and managed care pharmacists in caring for patients with ovarian cancer will be covered by the panelists.
