Optimizing the Management of Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Macular Edema: Evidence-Based Patient Case Review

Program Description

Several pathways are involved in the destabilization and inflammation associated with reduced retinal function in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). Despite advances in anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy, as monotherapy it does not address underlying inflammation or fibrosis. The expert panelists guiding this discussion will explore recent clinical data and the impact of combination therapies as well as novel delivery methods aimed to decrease burden of blindness associated with nAMD and DME. Experts will share insight and strategies pharmacists can employ to reduce the significant economic burden of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapies for patients with nAMD and DME. Patient cases will be reviewed throughout the program to highlight best practices for pharmacists to promote adherence and provide patient-centered care.
