Program Description

With the emergence of Janus associated kinase (JAK) inhibitors as pivotal agents in managing myelofibrosis (MF), the role of oncology pharmacists has become increasingly vital in ensuring optimal patient outcomes. The selection and sequencing of JAK inhibitor therapies in MF are influenced by disease characteristics, patient comorbidities, and treatment response. Oncology pharmacists must stay abreast of emerging data for the JAK inhibitors, updates to treatment guidelines, and ongoing clinical trials to facilitate informed treatment decisions, especially in patients who are intolerant to or refractory to first-line JAK inhibitor therapy or who present with MF-associated anemia. This activity will examine strategies for evidence-based treatment sequencing in MF and equip pharmacists to optimize therapy while minimizing treatment-related adverse effects. Additionally, oncology pharmacists will develop strategies for proactive monitoring and management of common and rare adverse effects associated with JAK inhibitors.
