Program Description
In recent years, the most significant advances that have been made in the treatment of cancer is the development of non-conventional chemotherapy treatment options known as immuno-oncology, specifically the rapidly expanding use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Maintaining a practical working knowledge of the evolving immuno-oncology landscape and its implications in therapy can enhance the care community pharmacists provide to patients with cancer, and it is important that they understand the unique toxicities of these treatments. Pharmacists must be informed about recently expanded and investigational indications of ICIs to best counsel patients and assist providers in improving adherence and treatment outcomes in patients receiving ICI therapies. This program features video animations that will highlight the mechanism of action of ICIs in the treatment and management of different malignancies as well as strategies for pharmacists to appropriately manage immune-related adverse events.
