Program Description
Despite advances in treatments that have improved survival rates among patients with multiple myeloma (MM), the disease is rarely curable. A large proportion of patients fail to respond to initial therapy or have a short duration of response to treatment. Progression to relapsed/refractory disease in MM presents therapeutic challenges, especially for patients who are triple-refractory to current therapies as well as those who relapse within 12 months of initial therapy. Opportunities for the application of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies in the treatment of relapsed/refractory MM is rapidly growing. The successful incorporation of CAR T-cell therapies into the MM treatment paradigm creates clinical and operational challenges that pharmacists and their multidisciplinary teams must address and resolve. In addition to a review of clinical data for use of CAR T-cell therapies in MM, this activity will examine the management of CAR T-cell-related adverse effects and operational strategies for pharmacists to optimize the use of CAR T-cell therapy and improve outcomes for patients. Expert faculty will lead case discussions discerning the role of pharmacists in the clinical and operational management of CAR T-cell therapies for the treatment of patients with MM.
