Program Description
The American Heart Association estimates the direct costs of cardiovascular disease (CVD) to be nearly $200 billion. A chain reaction starting with nonadherence with certain treatment options can lead to a variety of additional adverse effects, which can increase the risk for hospitalization and mortality as well as higher medical costs for patients. Real-world data supporting evidence for use of PCSK9 inhibitors in hyperlipidemia and recent reductions in pricing to align with cost-effectiveness parameters is continuously examined. Once pharmacists assist in identifying patients for whom PCSK9 inhibitors may be considered, they may play an additional role in overcoming barriers to prescribing and facilitating prior authorization or financial support to ensure patient access. This final webinar will highlight strategies pharmacists can use and recommend in order to address and overcome barriers to access and optimize outcomes for patients with hyperlipidemia.
