PCSK9 Inhibitors | Pharmacy Connect Podcast
Program Description
Hyperlipidemia is a chronic, progressive—but manageable—disease that contributes to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Statin therapy is the mainstay of treatment for hyperlipidemia and aims to lower LDL cholesterol to reduce risk of cardiovascular events, but some patients become nonadherent, intolerant, or resistant to therapy, which results in poorer clinical outcomes. Guidelines identify 4 main groups of patients for whom intensification of therapy with nonstatin medications, including PCSK9 inhibitors, may further reduce risk of ASCVD. This first webinar in a series of 3 highlights an overview of hyperlipidemia and updated guideline recommendations for healthcare professionals as they are intricately involved in identifying appropriate candidates for PCSK9 inhibitor therapy, educating patients, monitoring clinical responses, and working with clinicians to implement crucial interventions.
