Program Description
Though the prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has improved primarily due to advancements in screening, techniques in diagnosis and treatment, and novel agents such as targeted therapies and immunotherapies, patients with NSCLC with exon 20 mutations continue to have lower overall survival. Until recently, treatment options targeting this mutation were limited, but 2 epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors that target the most common mutations of EGFR, including the exon 20 insertion mutation, have been recently approved. Oncology pharmacists are optimally poised to improve care coordination and support both patients and the oncology care team in many ways. This program will explore the major role pharmacists can play in educating other health care providers on drug interactions, adverse effects, efficacy of therapy, and dosage adjustments to improve treatment adherence and survival outcomes for patients receiving EGFR exon 20-targeted therapies for NSCLC.
