New and Emerging Non-Opioid Treatment Strategies for Pain Management: An Update for Pharmacists

Program Description

Approximately 50 million surgeries of all types are performed annually within the United States, with 80% of those patients reporting postsurgical pain. Acute postsurgical pain management that is suboptimal can lead to numerous consequences, such as impaired physical function, quality of life, prolonged opioid use during and after hospitalization, and, ultimately, increased cost of care. Pharmacists have important roles in incorporating a multimodal approach to pain management with current and emerging non-opioid therapy options for reducing postoperative pain. This podcast will explore non-opioid treatment options and equip pharmacists with information necessary to enhance clinical decision making to optimize postoperative care, patient safety, quality of life, and overall outcomes.
