Program Description
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer in women and is the second most common cancer-related death. Numerous agents are available in the breast cancer treatment paradigm, and therapy decisions are based on tumor expression of estrogen receptor (ER), human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2), and those that do not express ER, HER, or the progesterone receptor. This activity will focus specifically on the place of CDK4/6 inhibitors in breast cancer therapy. Learners will delve into the clinical data and rationale for use of these agents, optimal treatment sequencing and combinations of therapy, and the role of the pharmacist in caring for patients receiving a CDK4/6 inhibitor for the treatment of ER+ breast cancer.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Examine the impact of endocrine therapy (ET) resistance and the role of CDK4/6 inhibition in estrogen receptor positive (ER+) breast cancer
- Analyze emerging clinical trial data surrounding CDK4/6 inhibitors in the treatment of breast cancer
- Explore the efficacy and safety of evolving treatment combinations with CDK4/6 inhibitors and recommendations for therapy selection in breast cancer
- Ascertain the role of the pharmacist in managing patients with breast cancer receiving therapy with a CDK4/6 inhibitor, including supportive care strategies, management of adverse effects, and appropriate patient follow-up
