Program Description
IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerular disease worldwide and is a leading cause of progressive kidney dysfunction and end-stage kidney disease. Prior to updated recommendations in the 2025 Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines, IgAN management centered on proteinuria as the primary marker of disease control. However, new data now demonstrate that several targeted therapies can also slow the rate of estimated glomerular filtration decline, a critical surrogate for long-term kidney outcomes. With multiple recently approved and late-stage investigational agents targeting distinct points in IgAN pathophysiology, managed care professionals and pharmacists must critically evaluate this expanding evidence base and translate it into sound formulary, coverage, and utilization management decisions. This session will highlight how managed care professionals and pharmacists can leverage updated KDIGO recommendations and emerging clinical trial evidence to inform real-world coverage policy, formulary evaluation, and patient access strategies. The clinical and economic burden of IgAN will also be discussed, with a focus on approaches for managed care to support evidence-based decision-making that improves long-term outcomes and helps preserve kidney function for patients with IgAN.

Educational Objectives
At the completion of this activity, pharmacists will be able to:
- Explore the pathophysiology, disease burden, and predictors of progression in immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) and implications for patient management
- Apply updated KDIGO guidance and emerging clinical evidence to treatment decision-making for patients with IgAN
- Compare currently available and late-stage investigational therapies for IgAN, including evaluating efficacy, safety, molecular targets, and potential impact on disease progression
- Examine managed care approaches to formulary evaluation, coverage policy development, and patient access that support optimal outcomes for individuals living with IgAN
