Program Description
Parkinson disease is a common neurodegenerative disorder affecting approximately 1 million individuals in the United States. Treatment with oral levodopa initially provides rapid, robust, and long duration benefit, but as the disease progresses, the symptom benefit of each dose wanes, which can pose a clinical and economic burden on patients. This diminished effect of a levodopa dose has been termed an “OFF” episode, and these fluctuate with benefit (or “ON” periods) of subsequent doses. This webinar will provide pharmacists with a review of medication-related considerations to equip them in effectively managing OFF episodes and in making clinical recommendations tailored to patient needs while addressing drug-drug interactions and adherence. Through a collaborative, individualized approach to patient care and promoting patient education, pharmacists may be able to provide more effective approaches for identifying and treating OFF episodes in Parkinson disease with information about new therapies.
