Program Description

Early recognition and treatment of cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell–associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) is central to ensuring optimal outcomes in patients receiving chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. These early-onset adverse effects of CAR T-cell therapy are well-defined and recognizable in clinical practice. However, the long-term adverse effects of CAR T-cell therapy, such as hypogammaglobulinemia, delayed-onset neurotoxicity, secondary malignancies, immune effector cell–associated hematotoxicity (ICAHT), and infections, are emerging concerns. This program will educate oncology pharmacists on the risks, signs, and symptoms of long-term toxicities associated with CAR T-cell therapy, as well as emerging data regarding appropriate monitoring and follow-up approaches to ensure timely and effective management, customized treatment strategies, and overall long-term safety for patients.
