Program Description
Early recognition and treatment of cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome is central to ensuring optimal outcomes in patients receiving chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. These early-onset adverse effects of CAR T-cell therapy are well-defined and recognizable in clinical practice. However, the long-term adverse effects of CAR T-cell therapy, such as hypogammaglobulinemia, delayed-onset neurotoxicity, secondary malignancies, immune effector cell-associated hematotoxicity, and infections, are emerging concerns. This program will educate oncology pharmacists on the risks, signs, and symptoms of long-term toxicities associated with CAR T-cell therapy, as well as emerging data regarding appropriate monitoring and follow-up approaches to ensure timely and effective management, customized treatment strategies, and overall long-term safety for patients.
