This activity is part 2 of a 3-part webinar curriculum and includes a Powered by Patients™ video interview.

Program Description
Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents act as inhibitors to the growth of new blood vessels, which can translate to potentially improved visual outcomes and slowed disease progression in ophthalmologic conditions, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME). There are complexities that differentiate this class from other recently advanced ophthalmologic therapies. While effective, frequent anti-VEGF injections can be burdensome for patients, leading to potential nonadherence and impacting treatment success. This webinar explores strategies for specialty pharmacists to support the ophthalmology team in optimizing anti-VEGF therapy for patients with AMD and DME. The discussion will delve into the mechanisms of action of approved anti-VEGF agents, analyzing real-world data on their safety and efficacy in both conditions, as well as current guideline-recommended dosing approaches to individualize treatment plans. A Powered by Patients™ interview will be included within the presentation, featuring the perspective of an individual living with AMD/DME and their experience with anti-VEGF injections.
