Managing What Matters: Practical Adverse Event Management Skills for Hormone Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer Therapies

Program Description

Adverse event (AE) management has become a critical rate-limiting step preventing patients from receiving the full benefit of therapy for hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/HER2– breast cancer, particularly as patients are exposed to multiple lines of targeted agents and complex oral regimens over time. Across therapeutic classes such as CDK4/6 inhibitors, PI3K/AKT inhibitors, and antibody-drug conjugates, predictable toxicities including gastrointestinal events, cytopenias, QTc changes, metabolic complications, and organ-specific effects can drive dose reductions, unplanned holds, or permanent discontinuation if not anticipated and managed proactively. This session will examine approaches to standardize proactive monitoring across drug classes and to improve pharmacist involvement in developing safety protocols so that AEs are addressed early, consistently, and in a way that preserves long-term treatment benefit. Participants will engage in rapid-fire clinical scenarios followed by expert-led small-group discussion to facilitate development of practical tools for workflows that participants may apply within their own practice settings to support continued use and mitigate AEs associated with advanced therapies for patients with HR+/HER2– breast cancer.
