Managed Care Considerations on the Evolving Role of Bispecific Antibodies in Hematologic Malignancies

Program Description

With the increasingly broad choice of therapeutic strategies for relapsed/refractory lymphoma and multiple myeloma, optimal treatment selection and sequencing continues to be a challenge. Despite significant advances in disease management and patient survival, many patients continue to experience disease relapse or toxicities that limit treatment efficacy. Bispecific antibodies (BsAbs) utilize components from different antibodies to provide targeted therapeutic approaches for hematologic malignancies, in particular lymphoma and multiple myeloma. As clinical data supporting the use of BsAbs in patients with hematologic malignancies emerge, managed care pharmacists will be tasked with developing formulary strategies to integrate BsAbs into the existing treatment armamentarium for hematologic malignancies and establishing strategies for prevention and treatment of adverse effects. This program will review distinct operational practices, such as requirements for preparation and administration of BsAbs in both inpatient and outpatient settings, to ensure coordination of care and access to cost-effective treatment.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Analyze the risks and benefits demonstrated in recent clinical trials incorporating bispecific antibodies (BsAbs) in the treatment of relapsed/refractory follicular lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
• Examine the impact of emerging literature supporting the use of BsAbs in the management of relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.
• Explore best practices for managed care in supporting transitions of care, updating standard operating procedures, and ensuring safe and effective use of BsAbs through the implementation of toxicity management and mitigation strategies.
• Investigate managed care strategies to overcome operational challenges with the use of BsAbs and improve patient outcomes
