Managed Care Considerations for Parkinson Disease: A Focus on Recent Data and Emerging Therapies

January 30, 2023 | 6:00 & 8:00 PM ET

Program Description

Parkinson disease (PD) is a slowly progressing neurodegenerative disease that impacts motor-related movements early in the disease course and impairs cognitive functioning in later stages. Current dopaminergic pharmacologic therapies are only effective for symptomatic management. In the absence of an approved disease-modifying therapy for PD, pharmacists and managed care professionals must maintain familiarity with guideline recommendations for initiating pharmacotherapy for symptom management while considering each patient’s individual circumstances including symptoms, comorbidities, and risks from polypharmacy. This webinar will review current pharmacologic strategies for managing symptoms of PD as well as agents under investigation that target the underlying pathophysiology of PD to slow or halt disease progression. Strategies for managed care professionals to deliver cost-effective treatment, participate in development of clinically appropriate pathways, and ensure access to emerging treatments for PD will also be discussed.
