Program Description
Hereditary angioedema (HAE) may exhibit variable clinical presentations, which can result in misdiagnosis and use of ineffective treatments. Early recognition of HAE and access to treatment are crucial for its effective management as well as reducing the number of attacks patients experience. The recommended approach involves a combination of on-demand and prophylactic treatment, with long-term treatment based on individual patient patterns. Managed care pharmacists need to differentiate between new and emerging acute and prophylactic treatments for HAE, and must consider that cost to treat an attack varies by the treatment used. This activity will equip managed care professionals to address the burden of disease and aid in the prevention of angioedema attacks in patients with HAE by applying evidence-based clinical guidelines and supporting the integration of new agents into formularies to ensure individualized treatment plans are available for patients.
